CAZ HASWELL : DA HOUSE

28 August - 16 September 2012 @ Flinders Street Gallery, Sydney, Australia

The work for this show has been influenced by the minutiae of urban and domestic architecture, such as brick patterns, roof tiling, fence structures, gates, scaffolding, trees, smoke and fog. The basic urban shapes and forms seen in local neighbourhoods throughout Sydney or in unfamiliar towns and cities from Vila do Bispo in Portugal to New York City have set the tone for the approach to this body of work, it is almost a homage to 'da house' and its surrounds within its myriad states.

Works are made across media and at various scales including small sculptures from cardboard, fur, leather, painted bronze, wax, carved oregon and larger sculptures and wall works made from plywood and timber sometimes painted, also included are small and large tapestries.

The titles of these works contribute an emotive element to otherwise formal content creating another layer of narrative using terms sourced from slang, euphemisms and idioms.
